In Wordpress Website

Your website is the virtual storefront of your business.  Your potential customers expect to see information about your products or services, your special offers, what other customers say about you, etc.  It helps you attract your target audience and educate them to make a buying decision.  Today I spent a couple of hours reviewing some websites from our meetup members in different markets.   I found some common website mistakes on these websites.  These mistakes can be costly so I decide to share them with you.

Here are 7 common website mistakes found on these websites:

Common Website Mistake #1: Trying to target everyone

The websites have no specific target audience. If I were a visitor, I would have no idea if I am in the right place. Many business owners try to target everyone. The truth is that if you try to target everyone, you get no one.

Corollary: Do a thorough market research using Google keyword search, Amazon, social media and forums to find out who is your ideal customer. Then you address your web copy to this group of people.

Common Website Mistake #2: Not capturing visitors’ contact information (e.g.: email addresses, phone number, etc.)

Corollary: Add an optin box with an irresistible offer to capture your prospect’s contact information for email and/or phone follow-up.

Common Website Mistake #3: Not addressing your prospect’s pain, frustration, hope and desire.

Corollary: Identify and address the pain, frustration, needs and desire of your prospects. When a visitor comes to your website, he knows instantly this is for him because you understand him even better than himself.

Common Website Mistake #4: No clear strong call-to-action to tell people what to do next.

Corollary: Specifically ask your prospects to call you, place an order or join your mailing list, etc. To make it work effectively, give compelling reasons for them to take immediate action.

Common Website Mistake #5: No customer testimonials or reviews as proof to increase your credibility.

Corollary: Use as many customer testimonials or reviews as you can to back up your promise. For example, Sherlockholmesmystery.com has several great book reviews on Amazon. Having them on the website will definitely increase the author’s credibility.

Common Website Mistake #6: Search engine optimization and social media sharing are done poorly.

Corollary: Use WordPress SEO and social media plugins to optimize your website so that you attract visitors from search engine and social media.

Common Website Mistake #7: Using a cookie-cutter website not under your control

For example, Gisellino.myitworks.com is a cookie-cutter site provided by itworks.com to its distributors. Every distributor has the same website. It is just another “me too” website. You don’t have the full control of this website.

Corollary: Build a website you control to establish your credibility and generate leads for your business.
